Sally Vinroot
"My work reflects a blending of lifelong interests
in sciences, the natural world and art."

My designs are usually abstract studies
of the interactive effects of color, line and texture.

My interest in fibers was a side effect of an old fascination with lichens. Laboratory research led to the accidental happy discovery of natural dyes, which in turn led to an interest in weaving. Later problems in obtaining a sufficient range in yarn hues in tapestry work led to adaptation of industrial dye techniques to studio conditions.

I currently like to use a range of on- and off-loom techniques as well as a wide variety of fiber types. My works vary in scale from "soft wall constructions," typically 3 X 6 feet or more in size to pectorals, which are miniature tapestries made as wearable art necklaces.
